The WEF Nexus Training 2026 is designed to strengthen skills and knowledge in managing the linkages between water, energy, and food systems across Southern Africa.

This initiative supports the development of future leaders equipped to address complex environmental and socio-economic issues through integrated, evidence-based approaches.

About the Programme

The training combines an online masterclass with an optional in-person advanced school, offering a structured learning journey on the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus.

Participants will explore how resource systems interact and learn practical tools to design sustainable solutions in the face of climate change, population growth, and environmental pressures.

This introductory course covers:

• Core WEF Nexus concepts

• Systems thinking approaches

• Analytical tools for resource interconnections

All participants who complete the course receive a Certificate of Completion.

In-Person Advanced School

• Dates: 17–21 August 2026

• Location: Future Africa, University of Pretoria

• Capacity: Limited to 30 participants

• Fee: €100 (covers training sessions, meals, and field trip)

The advanced programme focuses on:

• Applying WEF Nexus tools and frameworks

• Understanding trade-offs and synergies across sectors

• Linking scientific research to policy and decision-making

• Networking and collaboration with regional experts

• Participants are responsible for travel and accommodation, although limited sponsorships are available.
