Two well-known Southern Women's Rights Organisations (WROs): Gender Links and the Asian Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW), as well as a well-known UK-based development company, MannionDaniels, came together to form Women of the South Speak Out.

Members of the consortium were drawn together by their same feminist beliefs and grave concerns about the shrinking civic sphere, especially with regard to women and girls. Together, the consortium will strive to guarantee that, in all of their diversity, the voices of women and girls from the Global South are heard when making choices and enacting laws that have an impact on our daily lives for five years, from 2023 to 2027. Women's rights activists in the Global South (Africa, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Latin America and the Caribbean (LATAC), Asia .

The Fellowships' Goals

As specified in their advocacy strategies, fellows will engage in activities that establish connections between the local and regional levels. A strategy document outlining specific goals, objectives, and actions to promote a cause or problem is called an advocacy plan. A description of the problems being addressed, target audiences, intended results, methods for achieving these results, and an implementation schedule are usually included. The goal of the fellowships is to provide advocates with the abilities, know-how, and resources they need to effectively campaign for gender equality.

The fellowship's duration
The fellowship will last for eighteen months, although the start and finish dates will vary depending on the location.
• Africa: April–September of 2024
• June 2024 to March 2025 is the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) period.
• Latin America and the Caribbean (LATAC): September 2024 to March 2025; • Asia and the Pacific: TBC

Deadline for Applications
Africa: By midnight on May 10, 2024, South Africa Standard Time (SAST), or GMT+02:00, all applications must be submitted.
Applications from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) shall be submitted by midnight on May 12, 2024, GMT+02:00.
The Pacific and Asia - Applications must be submitted by August 8, 2024, GMT+08:00 (Malaysia Standard Time)
Latin America and the Caribbean (LATAC): All applications must be submitted by September 20, 2024, at GMT 06:00, or Central Standard Time (CST).

Program Benefits

Participation in at least one regional conference and a payment ranging from GBP 1000 to GBP 2000, given in installments based on the advocacy strategy and mutually agreed-upon milestones, are also included in the fellowship. The advocacy plan budget and workplan must be submitted by the approved applicants. Attending international conferences may or may not be possible depending on the advocacy initiative's nature, logistics, and other factors.

It will be required of fellows to take part in peer learning and networking, general programme onboarding, and briefings and debriefs on events in which they take part. As part of their education, fellows will have the opportunity to participate in research projects being carried out by WOSSO. After their fellowships are up, it is anticipated that Fellows will stay connected to WOSSO and be willing to guide new Fellows.

Eligibility Criteria

WOSSO Fellows will be chosen from networks or civil society organisations that prioritise women's rights or have a track record of supporting them. Young female advocates from the Global South between the ages of 18 and 35 are eligible for the fellowship.
