In 2024, the main goal of the Maynard 200 Fellowship is to give managers and frontline editors a year of professional development training and mentoring.

They are aware that newsroom editors and managers, especially those who have recently advanced to more senior leadership roles, deal with a variety of significant issues, disputes, and challenges on a daily basis. Their specialised curriculum covers a lot of these topics. They are developing basic editing and managerial skills through their course work, which news executives have informed them are essential for their teams.

With the support of their renowned faculty of journalism executives and relevant experts, their graduates are equipped to lead newsrooms based on equity, resilience, and belonging, especially while managing the continuous upheavals and technological advancements in the industry. This high-impact fellowship experience includes two weeks of in-person training rounds, in addition to additional workshops, office hours, and programme support all year round.

Program Benefits
The Hearthland Foundation, Craig Newmark Philanthropies, and McClatchy provide funding for the Maynard 200 fellowship programme. During the first training week in March, the institute pays for lodging and ground transportation; fellows are responsible for paying for their flights. These expenses will be paid for by the institute during the July second training week. There is a cap on travel reimbursement for fellows who are stationed overseas.

The Maynard Institute Programmes, which aim to address the underrepresentation of persons of colour and other historically marginalised groups in media-related professions, are open to all applicants.Non-citizens of the United States are required to be affiliated with or provide content to a U.S.-based media outlet or organisation.

For an online application, candidates must provide a current resume, work samples, a letter of recommendation, and a brief essay outlining their educational history, course objectives, and distinctive experiences.
