FUNDING : Applications Open for Global Innovation Fellowships: Carnegie Endowment

Scheme Overview: The programme is funded by the UK's International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF), a £337 million initiative aimed at unlocking potential and fostering global prosperity. This fund places research and innovation at the forefront of the UK's international collaborations, enabling UK researchers and innovators to partner with global peers on crucial themes such as planetary health, technology, and talent development. Managed by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, the fund is executed by a consortium of the UK's top research and innovation organizations.

The Global Innovation Fellowships are designed to support early- and mid-career UK-based researchers in the humanities and social sciences. The programme offers opportunities to develop skills, expand networks, and advance careers in various sectors, including creative, cultural, public, private, and policy domains. The goal is to address complex challenges requiring innovative solutions by fostering collaboration beyond academia, facilitating knowledge sharing, and enhancing individual skills.

This is the second call for the programme, offering fellowship recipients the chance to embed themselves at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. This prestigious think tank, recognized as a global leader in foreign policy, provides strategic insights and supports diplomacy through independent analysis and expert collaboration across regions such as Asia, Africa, Europe, India, the Middle East, and Russia and Eurasia.

The fellowship aims to create a mutually beneficial partnership between the awardee and Carnegie, allowing for the exchange of fresh perspectives, expanded networks, and the development of new approaches to policy challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Applications are invited in any of the following five areas:

Sustainability, Climate and Geopolitics.
Technology and International Affairs.
Democracy, Conflict & Governance.
Global Order and Institutions.
Nuclear Policy.
Political Economy and Trade.

There exist no preconceived notions regarding the award holder's disciplinary history; rather, the candidate must exhibit a comprehensive comprehension of the pertinent matters, encompassing the appropriate policy framework and the systemic obstacles it encounters. Although not required, language proficiency is preferred when applicable.

Application deadline: By 17:00 GMT on November 27, 2024, applications must be received.

Award period start date: By September 2025, Global Innovation Fellowships should be in place. It might be feasible to start earlier, in March or April of 2025. If so, the applicant will need to explain how they would organise and handle their migration on a shorter timeframe.
