FUNDING : Apply for the Cultural Change for Green Transition

Funding is available to teams interested in developing an application-related service that promotes cultural change by increasing awareness of climate change and offering mitigating solutions, under the "Cultural Change for Green Transition" opportunity.

According to the World Bank and UNESCO, increasing public understanding of climate change and its urgency can only be accomplished via education. People won't change their behaviour until they are conscious of the effects of what they are doing. Furthermore, studies have shown that those with lower levels of education are more susceptible to the negative effects of climate change.

As a result, the global Greening Education Partnership effort supports education's role in addressing the climate catastrophe. When curricula are made more environmentally friendly, pupils are better equipped to demonstrate their resilience in the face of climate change hazards. It also aids in their skill development and qualifies them for green careers. Education is important for students, but it also tries to raise awareness among the general public, governments, cities, and communities. Therefore, the cooperation for greening education is centred upon three additional pillars:

  • greening curricula
  • greening teacher training and education systems’ capacities
  • greening communities

This Kick-Start theme's objective is to assess the financial and technical viability of space-based technologies that, by increasing public awareness of climate change and offering mitigation measures, spark cultural change. The main objective is to assist in the creation of a sustainable society and equip the following generation to handle the challenges of the future. Space-based solutions present a special chance to foresee weather disasters, exchange tools and knowledge, and educate people about the urgency of the climate issue.

Topics of Relevance

In addition to services to develop creative educational and awareness content focussing on the effects of climate change, climate adaptation, and sustainability, GNSS may offer localised information for programs that assist in integrating climate education in schools.
Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 19 September 2024.

Additional Information

European Space Agency.
Program Type
Fully Funded
Program Benefits
The European Space Agency (ESA) will fund 6-month research projects dubbed "Kick-Starts," which have the potential to develop into larger-scale demonstration projects.
ESA provides 75% of the funding for Kick-Starts, up to a maximum of €75K per contract. The suggested services have to make use of space-based technologies or satellite data.
Eligibility Criteria
Kick-Start initiatives investigate the commercial potential and technical feasibility of novel services and applications that leverage one or more space assets (e.g., Earth observation, satellite navigation, satellite communications, and human spaceflight technologies).
With the theme "Cultural Change for Green Transition," this call for Kick-Start activities is open to businesses that want to create space-enabled services and applications that support the cultural shift by bringing attention to climate change and offering mitigating measures.
