If you work with Valorsul, the organisation in charge of treating and valuing the approximately 800,000 tonnes of municipal garbage generated in the Lisbon region and the Western Region of Portugal, you will be able to see the implementation of your solution in the industry standard firm in Portugal.
Aims
The contest’s objective is to award solutions given for 3 different categories and to promote and implement a pilot acceleration program with competitive participants.
In this light, the current contest aims to: Promote a creative culture anchored in science and technology.
Stimulate entrepreneurship and the transfer of knowledge and technology developed inside academic, research, and development operations.
Contribute to sustainable economic and social development of Valorsul.

Additional Information
The prize will be paid by Valorsul by bank transfer to the account of the winning participants, excluding any fees or taxes applicable under the legislation.
The participants awarded at the Pitch-Day event will have access to the development of their solutions/technologies at Valorsul’s industrial premises, and Valorsul will have a €150,000 budget available for the pilot development.
By submitting an application for the Open Innovation Valorsul 2024, the awarded participant pledges themselves to design and implement its suggested solution on a pilot test at Valorsul facilities (“Pilot”).
For solutions that cannot be developed in Valorsul’s facilities, the pilot may be carried out outside Valorsul´s facilities if the operational conditions are similar to Valorsul’s facilities and the results of the pilot would be same as if the solution was developed at Valorsul facilities.
Based on the following classification, participants ought to be beyond TRL 3: TRL1: fundamentals are observed; TRL2: technology concept is formulated; TRL3: experimental proof of concept; TRL 4: technology validated in lab; TRL 5: technology validated in relevant environment (industrially relevant environment in the case of key enabling technologies); TRL 6: technology demonstrated in relevant environment (industrially relevant environment in the case of key enabling technologies); TRL 7: system prototype demonstration in operational environment; TRL 8: system complete and qualified; TRL 9: real system validated in real-world settings (either in space or in competitive manufacturing, depending on the critical enabling technologies).
- It is not possible for directors, employees, or family members of Valorsul to enter this competition.
In any instance, where a conflict of interest arises, Valorsul has the right to reject applications to the program from organisations that do not adhere to the guidelines outlined in its code of ethics1.
Any solution that has previously been fully or partially implemented at Valorsul's facilities will not be taken into consideration.
