Pulitzer Center has announced a dedicated funding round to support in-depth journalism exploring the critical links between climate change and labor. The call invites reporters, editors, photographers, filmmakers, and media organizations to develop ambitious stories that investigate how the climate crisis is reshaping work, livelihoods, and economic systems across the globe.
As climate impacts intensify, workers in many sectors—particularly in agriculture, manufacturing, fisheries, and extractive industries—are facing rising exposure to environmental risks, unstable incomes, and inadequate labor protections. This funding opportunity seeks strong, public-interest reporting that examines these realities while amplifying the voices of workers and vulnerable communities.
Priority Themes
Proposals should align with at least one of the following focus areas:
-
Business Accountability: Investigations into trade systems, global supply chains, and private sector responses to climate pressures. Projects should examine who benefits, who bears the cost, and how corporate actors are adapting—or failing to adapt—to climate realities.
-
Gender and Labor Inequality: Reporting that highlights how climate impacts disproportionately affect women, including wage gaps, unsafe conditions, and limited representation in formal labor systems.
-
Adaptation and Community Resilience: Stories centered on local responses to climate stress, showcasing practical solutions, grassroots innovation, and the lived experiences of communities building resilience.
While submissions are welcome from around the world, proposals originating from or focused on Global South contexts are strongly encouraged.
