GRANT OPPORTUNITY: African-based off-grid energy companies can apply for this grant of up to $250K!
The Off-Grid Energy Challenge, an initiative by the United States African Development Foundation (USADF), aims to bolster electric power generation in unserved and underserved African communities through sustainable business models. It seeks to expand energy access by emphasizing off-grid solutions such as home systems and micro or mini-grids, focusing on productive commercial and industrial activities, healthcare, and increasing women's participation in the energy sector. This challenge is a pivotal part of the Power Africa initiative, intending to double electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030, with a significant number of new connections expected through off-grid solutions.
USADF invites proposals for the Off-Grid Energy Challenge, considering grants up to US$250,000 per award. Eligible applicants must be African-owned and managed private entities, operating in Africa, and focusing on sustainable energy access through clean energy technologies like solar, hydropower, wind power, biomass, and energy storage. Winning proposals will receive grant capital and intensive local technical support.
Eligibility criteria emphasize benefiting underserved communities, showcasing financial sustainability, experience, proposing a budget within the specified limit, demonstrating the addition of new connections, and promoting energy sources like wind, hydro, biomass, and gas. Women-owned or -managed businesses are encouraged, and proposals from specific countries receive priority attention.
This initiative seeks to empower underserved communities, prioritize women's involvement, and enhance sustainable energy access in Africa through innovative off-grid solutions.
