Local organizations working on climate change and biodiversity solutions now have an opportunity to access targeted financial and technical support through the 7th International Call for Proposals under the IKI Small Grants Programme.

IKI Small Grants is a global funding initiative supported by the German Federal Government under the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The programme is designed to strengthen locally led climate and biodiversity action by providing direct funding and capacity development to eligible organizations in ODA-eligible countries.

About the Programme

IKI Small Grants supports local and regional projects that contribute to:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

  • Adapting to the impacts of climate change

  • Protecting and restoring natural carbon sinks (including forests)

  • Conserving biological diversity

Projects must demonstrate strong implementation potential and tangible benefits for target communities.

Funding Details

  • Grant size: EUR 60,000 – EUR 200,000

  • Project start: From the first quarter of 2027 or later

  • Geographic scope: Local, sub-national, or national level

The requested grant amount must not exceed the organization’s average annual revenue over the past three years.

The programme does not support:

  • Government institutions or public universities

  • International organizations headquartered in non-ODA countries

  • Consortia or projects that forward funds to partners

  • Pure research projects without a strong implementation component

  • Eligible organizations will be notified by 2 February 2026
