1. Head of Content - Maternity Cover (6-9 Months)

About the Role
The Earthshot Prize is looking for an experienced Head of Content to support its vision for 2025. This strategic position covers multiple areas, including social media strategy, creator content strategy, content production, and collaboration with both direct reports and the wider Earthshot team.
The Head of Content will be responsible for creating engaging digital content that resonates with the target audience across various owned and earned channels. From ideation and production to final quality assurance, this role will oversee all content needs for the digital team. Additionally, the individual will collaborate with the Social Media Manager to develop social media strategies for owned channels and work with talented creators within the Creator remit. The Head of Content must immerse themselves in the stories of the Earthshot Prize Finalists to effectively showcase their impact to a global audience.
This role requires close collaboration with the Head of Digital Marketing, responsible for the website, eNews, reporting, and digital partnerships, to ensure all digital content is delivered to a high standard across all platforms. The Head of Content will also work with the Creative team to ensure content is both relevant and of the highest quality. Reporting to the Director of Digital Brand & Strategy, they will align with strategic goals and provide insights into content performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy:
- Collaborate with the Director of Digital Brand & Strategy and the Head of Digital Marketing to develop strategic campaigns, covering creative ideation, production, publication planning, and channel strategy.
- Create and execute digital content strategies to inspire and engage the audience while driving action.
- Develop strategies for owned social media channels to grow the audience and deliver relevant content across multiple platforms.
Social Media Channel Strategy:
- Oversee the social media strategy for Earthshot Prize's owned channels (e.g., YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn).
- Support the Social Media Manager in managing the content calendar and maintaining a consistent posting cadence.
- Ensure thorough quality assurance for all content, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Track trends and use data-driven insights to shape content output.
Content Production:
- Work with the Senior Designer to guide digital art direction for social media content and in-house campaigns.
- Manage freelance creatives (AV and graphic design) from brief to delivery.
- Oversee production agencies for larger-scale projects, ensuring deadlines are met and quality is maintained.
- Lead brainstorming sessions with the digital team, refining content ideas and guiding them through to final production.
- Manage production budgets and ensure invoicing is on time and tracked.
Creator Management:
- Expand the Creator strategy for 2025 by identifying key opportunities and defining KPIs.
- Manage paid creator partnerships, selecting, briefing, and ensuring high-quality content that aligns with digital strategies.
- Assist the Digital Communications Coordinator with organic creator relationships.
- Track and report on creator content performance, setting benchmarks for each campaign.
- Manage creator production budgets and ensure proper tracking of invoicing.
Stakeholder and Partner Management:
- Build and nurture relationships with key partners, seeking collaborative opportunities and ensuring deliverables are met.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to align with event and activation calendars and explore cross-posting opportunities.
- Support the digital needs of Earthshot Prize Finalists, ensuring their stories are central to content creation.
Management and Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- Manage a team of two staff members: the Social Media Manager and Digital Communications Coordinator. Help them meet key project deadlines, expand their skills, and ensure high-quality delivery.
- Collaborate with the broader digital team on content calendars, creative needs, and overall campaign alignment.
- Stay in close contact with the Partnerships, Prize, and Fellowship teams to stay updated on news stories and create digital content.
About You:
- 5+ years of experience in social media marketing and content production, either in-house or at an agency.
- Proven experience in managing social media channels, driving audience growth, and increasing content engagement.
- Experience leading production efforts with both in-house teams and external agencies.
- Familiarity with the creator landscape, including briefing, managing, and delivering high-quality content with international creators.
- A keen eye for detail and a high standard for content quality.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build relationships that drive results.
- Experience managing teams and holding them accountable for deadlines and outcomes.

This strategic role will oversee several critical areas, including the management of the website and eNews channels, the execution of paid media campaigns, the management of the reporting strategy, and close collaboration with a direct report and the broader Earthshot team.
The Head of Digital Marketing will be responsible for ensuring that relevant content reaches target audiences across both paid and organic channels. This individual will also manage communication of successes and insights from the digital team to internal and external stakeholders through a strong reporting strategy. The stories of the Earthshot Prize Finalists will be central to this role, requiring the Head of Digital Marketing to deeply engage with and present these stories to a global audience.
In collaboration with the Head of Content, who manages social media and creative production, the Head of Digital Marketing will ensure that digital content is of the highest standard across all channels. The position reports to the Director of Digital Brand & Strategy, aligning with strategic goals and providing insights from content performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy:
- Collaborate with the Director of Digital Brand & Strategy and the Head of Content to develop strategic campaigns, including creative ideation, publication planning, channel strategy, syndication strategy, and reporting to ensure effective digital campaigns.
- Work with the Director of Digital Brand & Strategy and the Head of Content to create ongoing digital content that inspires the audience and drives action.
- Develop and execute strategies for owned social and digital channels, working to grow the audience and deliver relevant content across various platforms.
Measurement & Reporting:
- Lead the long-term insights strategy, ensuring regular reporting for both internal teams and external stakeholders, including weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc reports.
- Oversee the creation and management of reporting formats, ensuring clarity and relevance for diverse audiences.
- Partner with the Digital Marketing Manager on the development and management of dashboards for real-time reporting.
- Manage analytics tools such as Sprout, YouScan, and Funnel, providing team training and maintaining relationships with channel representatives.
Paid Media Delivery:
- Create strategic plans for social media campaigns (Meta, TikTok, YouTube, X) and Google Ads, focusing on ROI and audience relevance.
- Execute strategies and optimize campaigns within platforms.
- Provide clear reporting on campaign performance, ensuring alignment with KPIs.
- Manage budgets, track spend, and ensure invoicing is up-to-date and efficient.
- Note: Paid media campaigns are not "always on," but rather project-based with set budgets and goals developed in collaboration with the Director of Digital Brand & Strategy.
Website, eNews, and Blog Oversight:
- Support the Digital Marketing Manager in regularly updating content across the website, eNews distribution, and blog.
- Ensure final approval on website builds, software stacks, and infrastructure that supports audience reach and engagement.
- Oversee Google presence and SEO strategy for Earthshot Prize.
Digital Partnership Development:
- Build and maintain relationships with key digital publishers, promoting stories and engaging in organic digital press opportunities.
- Pitch paid digital partnership opportunities where appropriate, ensuring a strong ROI and audience relevance.
Management and Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- Manage 1 direct report, the Digital Marketing Manager, providing support to ensure project delivery, skill development, and high-quality work.
- Collaborate with the wider digital team on channel calendars, content creation, copywriting needs, and campaign alignment, ensuring that social media channels work seamlessly with website, eNews, and blog content.
- Engage with the Partnerships, Prize, and Fellowship teams to source updates and news stories, support Earthshot Prize Finalists' digital requests, and identify opportunities to share the work externally via digital channels.
About You:
- 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, either in-house or at an agency, with a focus on leading brand digital strategy.
- Proven track record in managing digital channels to drive audience growth and engagement.
- Strong focus on data, analytics, and insights, with experience in creating and delivering comprehensive, easy-to-read reports.
- Experience in planning, executing, and reporting on paid social media campaigns for Meta, TikTok, X, YouTube, and Google Ads.
- Knowledge of the digital publisher landscape and experience in developing story seeding and publication deals to reach relevant audiences.
- Experience in managing teams and leading projects, holding individuals accountable for deadlines and results.
