Job Opportunities : The Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) is hiring in 2 positions – Check them out

The Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) is a coalition of over 2,000 organizations from 54 African countries, bringing together a diverse range of groups, including grassroots organizations, community-based organizations, faith-based groups, NGOs, foundations, indigenous communities, farmers, and pastoralists. These organizations share a common vision to promote a people-centered, rights-based, just, and inclusive approach to addressing the climate and environmental challenges facing both humanity and the planet.

Founded in 2008 in South Africa and with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, PACJA works alongside African intergovernmental agencies, governments, and other key stakeholders, such as the media, parliamentarians, and sector-specific networks. It does so through targeted initiatives designed for each group's unique needs and priorities.

As an existential threat to both humanity and the planet, climate change is exacerbating food insecurity, land degradation, population displacement, and pressure on water resources, both in Africa and globally. It has also led to increased violations of rights and destruction of ecosystems, with environmental defenders and activists facing growing threats. Despite this harsh reality, many African citizens still do not fully recognize the impact of climate change on their daily lives or connect the challenges they face to the global causes of the climate crisis.

In response, PACJA, along with Oxfam Novib, the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), Natural Justice, and the African Youth Commission (AYC), formed the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) Consortium. The goal of the Consortium is to unite and amplify the voices of marginalized groups in Africa’s climate policy processes and interventions.

With funding from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consortium works to ensure that vulnerable groups—such as women, youth, and local and indigenous communities—are empowered to defend their human rights and live dignified lives in healthy, sustainable environments amid the climate emergency.

The AACJ Consortium holds that it is deeply unjust that those who have contributed the least to climate change are the most affected by its consequences. The Consortium operates in Burkina Faso, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa, and Senegal. Its collective belief is that the causes, effects, and solutions to climate change must be strongly aligned with principles of environmental justice and social justice.
