The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) was officially founded in March 2003 and became operational in May of the same year. Its mission is to strengthen international support for Africa's development and security through advocacy and analysis. OSAA also assists the UN Secretary-General in improving the coordination and coherence of UN support for Africa, facilitates global intergovernmental discussions on Africa, especially regarding the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), and establishes mechanisms to monitor progress on commitments made to Africa’s development.
