JOB OPPORTUNITY : African Union Commission is looking for a Chairperson’s Youth Envoy
The African Union Commission (AUC) is inviting applications for the position of African Union Commission Chairperson’s Youth Envoy, offering an exceptional opportunity for outstanding young African leaders to represent the interests and aspirations of young people across the continent.
Based at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Youth Envoy will serve as a key advocate for youth participation in continental policy processes while strengthening collaboration between young people and African Union institutions. The appointment supports the implementation of Agenda 2063, which recognizes youth as central to Africa’s sustainable development and transformation.
Position Overview
The Youth Envoy will work closely with the African Union Commission's Women, Gender and Youth Directorate to promote youth inclusion, strengthen partnerships, and ensure that young Africans have a stronger voice in shaping continental priorities.
The successful candidate will serve an initial one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal based on performance, funding availability, and agreed deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
The selected Youth Envoy will:
- Advocate for the implementation of African Union youth policies and initiatives.
- Promote meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes.
- Represent African youth in AU meetings, dialogues, and international engagements.
- Strengthen partnerships with governments, civil society, development partners, and youth organizations.
- Support youth-led advocacy, leadership, and empowerment initiatives across Africa.
- Encourage greater youth representation within African Union institutions.
- Coordinate continental youth engagement activities and strategic campaigns.
Regional Eligibility
In line with the African Union's geographical rotation policy, applications are currently open to eligible candidates from:
- West Africa
- East Africa
- Central Africa

Additional Information
- US$96,921.34 annually for internationally recruited staff
- US$78,461.08 annually for locally recruited staff
- The salary includes applicable allowances according to African Union employment policies.
- Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Development Studies, Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Information Technology, or another relevant field.
- Have at least 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree or 10 years with a Bachelor's degree, including experience at senior or expert level.
- Demonstrate leadership in youth development, advocacy, public policy, or community engagement.
- Have experience working with youth organizations, governments, civil society, or international institutions.
- Possess excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and partnership-building skills.
- Be proficient in at least one African Union working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, or Spanish). Knowledge of an additional AU language is an advantage.
