Applications are open for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) six-month internship within the Finance Unit of its Mitigation Branch under the Climate Change Division. The placement offers early-career professionals an opportunity to contribute to international efforts advancing clean energy investment and low-carbon development pathways.
The internship will be based in Paris, France, beginning in July 2026.
About the Internship
UNEP serves as the leading global authority promoting environmental sustainability and supporting countries in addressing climate change challenges. Through its Climate Change Division, the organization works alongside governments and partners to accelerate climate mitigation, resilience building, and sustainable energy transitions.
Interns joining the Finance Unit will support initiatives designed to mobilize investment and strengthen climate finance systems in developing and emerging economies.
Key Responsibilities
Selected interns will contribute to a range of programme activities, including:
- Supporting implementation of ongoing climate finance initiatives and partnerships
- Assisting in the preparation of project proposals and partner presentations
- Conducting research and policy analysis for publications and technical outputs
- Preparing briefings, meeting summaries, and workshop materials
- Supporting communication and outreach content development
- Assisting with organization of global, regional, and national events
The role provides exposure to international climate finance mechanisms, policy development processes, and multilateral collaboration.
Internship Details
- Location: Paris, France (in-person)
- Duration: 6 months
- Start Date: July 2026
- Compensation: The internship is unpaid, in accordance with United Nations Secretariat regulations
Participants are responsible for travel, accommodation, visa arrangements, and living expenses.

- International Relations
- Development Studies or related disciplines
Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, digital literacy, and a clear interest in multilateral environmental work.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of another official UN language, including French, is considered an advantage
