PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the World Trade Organization (WTO) Young Professionals Programme 2025/26
Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Young Professionals Programme. Established in 2016, this initiative provides a platform for skilled young professionals from developing and least-developed WTO member countries to expand their expertise in global trade and WTO-related matters. The programme seeks to engage individuals from underrepresented member nations within the WTO Secretariat. Through participation, young professionals enhance their prospects for future employment within the WTO or other regional and international organizations. This effort aligns with the WTO Secretariat’s commitment to fostering diversity and ensuring broader representation among its members.
Successful candidates in the programme will be assigned to a designated division within the WTO Secretariat, with placements determined by both the organization’s priorities and the participants’ areas of interest. The scope of work may involve various aspects of international trade, such as market access, dispute resolution, intellectual property regulations, trade and environmental policies, investment regulations, agricultural trade, government procurement, and trade-related technical assistance.
The programme runs for a period of one year, with no possibility of extension. To qualify, applicants must be citizens of a WTO member state and hold an advanced degree in law, economics, or other disciplines relevant to international trade. A minimum of two years of professional experience in a related field is required, along with a strong interest in global trade and a commitment to WTO-related activities. Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French or Spanish is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates must be 32 years old or younger at the time the programme begins.
Participants receive a monthly salary of CHF 4,000. In addition to financial compensation, the WTO covers medical insurance and travel expenses.
