Paid Internship : Join Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) as an External Affairs Intern
Overview
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is a leading international organization focused on accelerating climate change adaptation efforts globally. By working with both public and private sectors, GCA promotes adaptation solutions that support vulnerable communities at the international and local levels. The organization was established in 2018 and operates regional offices across the world, including locations in Rotterdam, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Bangladesh, and Beijing, with a dedicated research hub in Groningen, the Netherlands. GCA’s work is centered on policy development, research, advocacy, and collaboration to ensure timely and impactful climate adaptation actions.
Role Overview:
The External Affairs team at GCA acts as the organization's liaison with the global community, facilitating strategic relationships with governments, international organizations, and other stakeholders. The team is instrumental in advancing GCA’s mission by engaging in high-level political discussions, forming impactful partnerships, and supporting global dialogues on climate resilience.
Reporting to the Senior Partnerships and External Affairs Officer, the External Affairs Intern will assist the team in managing diplomatic engagements, maintaining stakeholder relations, and ensuring the successful execution of high-level events and partnerships. The intern’s responsibilities will include liaising with governments, international organizations, and other key partners, with a focus on relationship management and ensuring protocol compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in communication with diplomatic missions in Nairobi and maintain an up-to-date contact database.
- Help organize meetings with stakeholders, including scheduling, sending invitations, and ensuring all logistics (venue, virtual platforms, etc.) are in place.
- Attend meetings with stakeholders, take detailed notes, and produce meeting minutes summarizing decisions, action items, and timelines.
- Support the preparation and implementation of high-level political summits, events, and meetings.
- Draft official diplomatic communications (Note Verbale) and prepare briefings for external engagements, including for GCA's CEO.
- Attend meetings with GCA stakeholders and produce detailed notes and summaries.
- Monitor climate and global affairs news with a focus on climate adaptation, and report findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of multilateral protocol and diplomatic communication.
Internship Terms:
This internship does not guarantee employment upon completion.

Additional Information
Demonstrated interest or experience in international relations, international development, or climate change diplomacy, especially adaptation.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Proficient research, analytical, writing, and editing abilities.
Fluency in English; knowledge of French is a plus.
High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
