The United Nations body in charge of assisting the worldwide response to the threat posed by climate change is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat (UN Climate Change). The Convention, which is the parent agreement of the 2015 Paris Agreement, has 197 Parties, almost universal membership.
The Vulnerability subdivision of the Adaptation Division, which fosters knowledge-sharing, improves learning about and comprehension of needs and action in response to climate change impacts for various sectors and groups, and maintains a reliable repository of adaptation data and information, is home to this UNFCCC internship position (remote or in-person). The Nairobi Work Programme (NWP) unit and the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP) unit make up the Vulnerability subdivision. The intern works with the LCIPP unit as a support staff member and will be accountable to the Associate Programme Officer.
Internship Objective and Duties
The intern will collaborate with members of the LCIPP unit under the guidance of its Associate Programme Officer. Their responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks, which may vary depending on whether the internship is conducted remotely or in-person, and include, but are not limited to:
1. Implementation Support:
- Conducting desk research to aid in implementing activities outlined in the LCIPP second three-year workplan. This includes tasks such as mapping existing policies, actions, and communications that integrate indigenous knowledge systems and perspectives of local communities.
- Assisting in organizing mandated events, including note-taking during events and preparing post-event summaries.
2. Communication and Outreach:
- Supporting outreach and communication efforts through various channels like social media, e-newsletters, and newsroom articles to increase the visibility of the subdivision's work.
- Managing content on the LCIPP web portal.
- Creating video and audio content, as well as infographics, to broaden the reach of the subdivision's work to diverse stakeholders.
- Providing communication support during events and meetings.
3. Additional Responsibilities:
- Contributing to the planning and execution of activities within the Vulnerability subdivision, including active participation in relevant meetings and events of other adaptation workstreams.
- Assisting with tasks assigned by the LCIPP Team Lead and other staff members, as required.
Timeframe
The internship duration is a maximum of six months, with flexibility depending on the intern's availability and the requirements of the Vulnerability subdivision.

Additional Information
Courses in environmental studies, sustainability, international relations, journalism, design, or a similar field are necessary, as well as courses on climate change. It is ideal if you have experience with infographic creation, photography, videography, and social media communications.
▪ The ideal candidate will speak and write English fluently, be an exceptional note-taker and writer, and have outstanding oral and written communication abilities. Proficiency in additional UN languages is advantageous.
▪ Applicants need to be able to function in a multidisciplinary and multicultural workplace.
