UPTO 10,000 GRANTS: Urgent Action Fund Africa is calling for proposals from everyone that works on climate change, water, women

Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa) is a feminist, pan-African organization dedicated to supporting African feminists and Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) in their efforts to address environmental and climate injustices. We operate virtually across Africa's five sub-regions to expand our reach and impact on the continent.

Background:
Across Africa, environmental and climate injustices disproportionately affect women. These injustices include land grabbing, deforestation, extractive industries, and issues related to water resources. Women, who rely heavily on land for their livelihoods, often face exploitation by multinational corporations, leading to land degradation, pollution of water sources, and increased hardships.

Despite the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, many countries are struggling to meet their environmental targets. Climate change exacerbates social and economic inequalities, potentially affecting over 2 billion people with food insecurity, water scarcity, droughts, and rising sea levels.

UAF-Africa's approach to environmental and climate justice uses a feminist perspective to examine the root causes of these challenges, highlighting their impact on women. We partner with WHRDs, feminist groups, and movements to challenge environmental injustices, advocate for women's participation in decision-making, and dismantle power structures perpetuating gender inequalities.

Objective:
We are issuing a call for proposals to invite environmental feminists, women's rights organizations, collectives, groups, and movements to address injustices related to land grabbing, deforestation, extractives, and water that disproportionately affect women. We aim to support transformative initiatives that shift power dynamics for systemic change, with a focus on grassroots environmental WHRDs and organizations.

Areas of focus for grant applications include:
1. Land, extractives, deforestation, and water injustices targeting women.
2. Support for the safety and security of women human rights defenders.
3. Policy and legislative advocacy related to environmental and climate justice.
4. Advocacy for women's inclusion in decision-making on environmental issues.
5. Research and documentation to transform women's lived realities.

We offer Rapid Response Grants of up to USD 10,000 and Advocacy and Alliance Building Grants of up to USD 15,000 for initiatives in Rainforest zones across Africa.

How to Apply:
The Call for Proposals is open from October 4, 2023, and welcomes applications from feminist, women's rights, and climate justice defenders, groups, and organizations in specified African countries. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis
