Are you a dynamic and strategic communications professional with a passion for climate action and youth empowerment? Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO) is seeking a Communications Manager to lead its communications strategy and support the organization’s advocacy efforts in promoting sustainability and youth leadership across Africa.
As a Communications Manager at GAYO, you will be at the heart of the organization's public relations, media management, internal communications, and stakeholder engagement efforts. Your leadership and strategic vision will help amplify GAYO’s impact on climate change, ensuring youth voices are heard on regional, national, and global platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- External Communications: Develop and execute strategies for media campaigns, manage relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets, and represent GAYO as a spokesperson in public and media engagements.
- Public Relations & Media Management: Ensure GAYO’s voice is amplified through impactful PR campaigns, and strategically position the organization as a thought leader in climate action and youth leadership.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with program teams to craft compelling success stories, manage communication with donors and partners, and ensure high-quality communication materials are created for stakeholders.
- Internal Communications: Foster alignment and transparency within the organization through effective internal communications and knowledge-sharing platforms. Train staff on best practices for consistent messaging.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Analyze communication outcomes, track campaign performance, and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.

Additional Information
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience: Minimum 5 years in communications, public relations, or media, ideally in the nonprofit or environmental sector.
Skills: Strong leadership skills, experience managing consultants across multiple geographies, and excellent proficiency in English (French is an asset). Ability to work independently and within a team.
Climate Expertise: A strong understanding of climate change and sustainability issues, especially in the African context.
Communication Skills: Expertise in social media management, digital content creation, website management, and media engagement.
