VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Apply for the AVoHC Kofi Annan Scholars Program – Financial Specialist (Africa CDC)
Applications are open for the AVoHC Kofi Annan Scholars Program – Financial Specialist under the African Volunteers Health Corps (AVoHC), an initiative of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). The program seeks experienced financial professionals from across Africa and the African Diaspora to join a roster of experts who can be deployed to support Ministries of Health, National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs), and other key public health institutions during critical assignments.
The Kofi Annan Scholars Program is one of the flagship initiatives of the Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Program, designed to strengthen Africa’s public health systems by placing highly skilled professionals in time-bound assignments where they provide technical expertise, build institutional capacity, and contribute to sustainable health sector development. Financial Specialists will help improve financial governance, accountability, budgeting systems, and institutional financial management practices while supporting countries to strengthen their public health institutions.

Additional Information
Although membership itself does not provide a salary, experts deployed on assignments will receive economy-class return air tickets and travel-related expenses, health insurance during deployment, a stipend, communication and incidental allowances, risk allowance where applicable, accommodation allowance for deployments outside their city of residence, and an official certificate recognizing their contribution. These assignments also provide an opportunity to build leadership skills and make a meaningful contribution to strengthening public health systems across the continent. (jobs.au.int)
Applicants should have a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in financial management, auditing, financial policy development, or related areas. Experience developing financial systems, manuals, and policies that comply with national regulations and international best practices is highly desirable. Candidates should also have strong expertise in budgeting, financial planning, public financial management, internal controls, financial risk management, stakeholder engagement, and donor compliance. Excellent communication, technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential. Applicants must be proficient in at least one African Union working language (English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, or Swahili), while knowledge of additional AU languages is an advantage.
