VOLUNTEER ROLES: Apply for the UNESCO World Heritage Centre volunteer campaigns 2025 in selected countries worldwide
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre is excited to share the announcement of the chosen initiatives for the 2025 edition of the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) campaign, themed “World Heritage Volunteers 2025 – Working on the Future.” Throughout the period from April to December 2025, a total of 89 volunteer-based projects will be carried out at 82 locations, including both World Heritage sites and those on Tentative Lists. These efforts will be organized by 70 different entities operating across 41 nations worldwide.
Now in its eighteenth year, the WHV Initiative continues to unite young people, local communities, and heritage site managers in collective efforts to foster more inclusive and forward-looking societies. At the heart of this global campaign lies the belief that World Heritage holds the power to inspire resilience, foster human connection, and spark creative solutions to the challenges facing our shared planet. By participating in meaningful, hands-on activities and public engagement initiatives, volunteers from different cultural backgrounds will collaborate with local populations to safeguard our valuable cultural and natural treasures. These experiences will not only strengthen global solidarity, but also empower young individuals by offering them impactful learning opportunities in some of the world’s most remarkable environments.
Volunteering in support of World Heritage conservation is an extraordinary journey that offers personal growth and meaningful impact. If you’re interested in joining this global effort, consider participating in the 2025 WHV Campaign.
The World Heritage Volunteers Initiative began in 2008 to mobilize youth in direct, meaningful action to protect and celebrate global heritage. These grassroots programs are hosted by various organizations and bring together volunteers—both local and international—to carry out preservation tasks and raise public awareness. Local community involvement plays a central role in these projects, which are carried out in collaboration with a wide network of stakeholders. The initiative is coordinated by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in partnership with Better World.
Those interested in volunteering should consult the list of approved WHV 2025 projects and explore the available descriptions to find a project that aligns with their interests and availability. Volunteers must directly contact the host organizations listed in the project descriptions for details regarding application procedures, as neither UNESCO nor Better World manages individual volunteer applications.
