VOLUNTEER ROLES: Apply to join the World Heritage Volunteers 2025 Campaign for young Ugandan and International youth and Changemakers

Applications are now open for the 2025 edition of the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) Youth Camp, scheduled to take place at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park from the 1st to the 10th of September 2025. This immersive program offers young people a unique opportunity to engage directly in the protection and celebration of one of Uganda’s most treasured natural sites, recognized globally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Organized through a partnership between Faraja Africa Foundation, UNESCO, Better World, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the WHV initiative is part of a wider global movement launched in 2008 to involve youth in the safeguarding and promotion of heritage. Since 2017, similar camps have taken place in other Ugandan heritage sites such as the Rwenzori Mountains and Bwindi, drawing volunteers from around the world to take part in meaningful conservation and cultural initiatives.

This year’s program will center on promoting environmental responsibility, youth-driven sustainability, and active heritage preservation through a variety of practical, community-focused activities. Volunteers will contribute to the protection of the park’s rich biodiversity through efforts like tree planting, public education campaigns, and hands-on conservation work. In addition, the camp will use digital tools to help raise awareness about the significance of Bwindi, emphasizing its ecological and cultural value both nationally and internationally.

Participants will also take part in workshops and training sessions that focus on green employment and sustainable practices, equipping them with skills relevant to environmental leadership and heritage conservation. Through community outreach and educational content creation, the camp will also support local communities in better understanding their role in preserving natural resources. The initiative aims not only to preserve Uganda’s natural heritage but also to nurture a new generation of young leaders committed to sustainability.

Those interested in taking part must submit their application using the official registration form, which is the sole entry point for participation in the 2025 Bwindi WHV Camp.
