Applications are now open for the Education for Climate Coalition's Annual Call for Innovative Green Education Actions 2026. The initiative invites educators, students, youth leaders, civil society organizations, researchers, public institutions, and other sustainability champions to showcase innovative projects that are transforming climate education and promoting sustainable learning across Europe.

Selected projects will be featured during Education for Climate Day 2026, taking place on 22 October 2026 in Brussels, where participants will have the opportunity to share their work with an international audience of education and climate stakeholders.

About the Call

The initiative seeks practical examples of climate education projects that inspire sustainable action, encourage collaboration, and strengthen environmental learning. Projects may be ongoing, recently completed, or launched within the last five years, provided they demonstrate tangible implementation and measurable impact.

Thematic Areas

Applications are invited under three priority themes:

  • Youth Leadership and Intergenerational Dialogue for Climate Action
    • Projects that empower young people to lead sustainability initiatives while fostering collaboration between schools, families, communities, and local organizations.
  • Citizenship Education and Institutional Action for Sustainability
    • Initiatives that promote environmental awareness, public participation, and sustainability through education, research, community engagement, or institutional action.
  • GreenComp: Envisioning Sustainable Futures in Teaching and Learning
    • Projects that apply the GreenComp framework to help learners develop sustainability competencies and imagine more resilient and sustainable futures.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Innovation and ambition.
  • Relevance to climate and sustainability education.
  • Interdisciplinary approach.
  • Participatory engagement.
  • Practical evidence and project outcomes.
  • Community impact beyond educational settings.

Three outstanding projects from each thematic area will be selected for presentation during the event.

Applicants are encouraged to submit both the required online survey and accompanying project blog before the deadline to be considered for selection.

Eligibility Criteria
Projects must:

- Be implemented within one or more European Education Area countries, including EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.

- Have started, be ongoing, or have been completed within the past five years.

- Demonstrate practical implementation and measurable outcomes.

- Be submitted by individuals or organizations involved in formal or informal education, including students, educators, schools, universities, civil society organizations, research institutions, public bodies, and private organizations.

- Previously submitted projects may also be considered if significant new developments or activities have been added.
