In order to develop tools for community power, connection, and stewardship as well as to support the goals and requirements of the individuals and communities who use their software, fellowships are a crucial part of the work that their foundation does. Development of currently underway software projects and associated Processing projects (Processing, p5.js, Processing.py, Processing for Android, ml5.js) are examples of projects, as is creative and exploratory work for new iterations.
They welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and abilities, and they encourage research, experimentation, and educational projects. More important to them than a fellow's prior technical proficiency are proposals that show a fellow's passion and the development of their practice.
Areas of Priority: Archival Procedures: Code and New Media: Initiatives focused on creating platforms and tools for digital and creative code preservation, as well as new media archiving techniques.
Open-Source Governance: Projects aimed at developing models of governance that support fair and inclusive decision-making, participation, and long-term development of open-source projects.
Tools and initiatives that support accessibility and disability justice in the field of creative technology are referred to as disability justice in creative tech.
AI & Access: Using AI technologies to provide solutions that are accessible and to increase diversity in digital environments.
