FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the MINDS Scholarship Program 2024 to Study in Africa
The MINDS (Mandela Institute for Development Studies) Scholarship Programme for Leadership Development in Africa, launched in 2017, aims to cultivate young leaders with a pan-African development perspective, promoting greater cooperation among African nations.
This scholarship allows African students to pursue their studies in an African country other than their own, offering them the opportunity to experience the cultural richness and diversity of different communities.
By expanding educational access, the program fosters openness to new ideas and builds a network of like-minded leaders dedicated to advancing the continent. A more integrated African economy is expected to accelerate growth, produce positive outcomes, and benefit all communities across the continent.
To qualify for a MINDS Scholarship, applicants must be accepted to study at one of the following institutions:
EAST AFRICA
- African Leadership University, Rwanda
- Carnegie Mellon University, Rwanda
- Makerere University, Uganda
- Strathmore University, Kenya
SOUTHERN AFRICA
- African Leadership University, Mauritius
- University of Cape Town, South Africa
- University of Mauritius, Mauritius
- University of Witwatersrand, South Africa
NORTH AFRICA
- Al Akhawayn University, Morocco
- Université Cadi Ayyad, Morocco
- Université Mohammed V, Morocco
WEST AFRICA
- Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana
- Pan-Atlantic University (Lagos Business School), Nigeria
- University of Development Studies, Ghana
The application deadline is on a rolling basis.

One return ticket per duration of studies
A fixed stipend.
- Be citizens of an African country and currently residing in an African nation.
- Have received formal acceptance into one or more of MINDS' preferred institutions outside their home country.
- Be accepted into a postgraduate program at a MINDS preferred institution for the upcoming academic year.
- Have achieved at least 70% in each course or subject over the last two years of study.
- Provide evidence of leadership qualities or potential as outlined in the application form.
- Submit a fully completed online application form with all the required supporting documents.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply by following the link provided below. Make sure to have the following documents ready for upload, all in PDF format, with each file not exceeding 2MB:
1. A copy of the data or bio page from your passport.
2. A certified academic transcript or results slip from the last two years of study.
3. An official acceptance letter from the university that:
- Is addressed to you as the applicant.
- States the degree program you've been accepted to.
- Specifies the academic year your degree will commence.
- Indicates the duration of the course (e.g., one year).
4. A valid study permit or visa, or proof of application (optional).
5. A detailed CV/Resume, not exceeding four single-sided pages.
6. Two reference letters, each no longer than three pages, addressing your integrity, leadership abilities, and commitment to the development of Africa.
