*Background:*
The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) is seeking an Advocacy and Risk Communication Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing advocacy and communication strategies to promote disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation across the region.
*Key Responsibilities:*
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation
- Prepare and implement a communication plan for the ARiPHA project
- Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, NGOs, and the media
- Design and disseminate risk communication materials
- Support the translation of technical project output into policy briefs, reports, and press releases
- Collaborate with member states to ensure accurate and timely communication of ICPAC products and information
- Coordinate with the regional technical working group for Anticipatory Action
- Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and forums
- Monitor the effectiveness of advocacy and communication activities
*Requirements:*
- BA or master's degree in communications, Public Relations, International Relations, risk communication, Risk Management, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in advocacy, risk communication, or public relations
- Strong understanding of climate-related hazards and disaster risk management in the East African context
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
*Skills and Competencies:*
- Analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage stress
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in the IGAD region is highly desirable
- Proficiency in English (knowledge of French is an added advantage)
*Remuneration:*
Negotiable with IGAD salary scale and policy, based on applicant's qualification and experience.
