Apply for the GreenVoyage2050 Accelerator ( with funding of up to $250,000 per selected project.)

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is inviting applications for technical assistance to support pilot projects focused on developing feasibility studies for deploying zero- or near-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission solutions on ships and in ports. This assistance, provided through the GreenVoyage2050 program, offers developing countries a unique opportunity for customized support, with funding of up to $250,000 per selected project.

IMO's 2023 Strategy for Reducing GHG Emissions from Ships (resolution MEPC.377(80)) aims for net-zero GHG emissions by around 2050. It encourages R&D and pilot initiatives related to marine propulsion, zero or near-zero GHG emission technologies, fuels, and energy sources to improve the energy efficiency of ships and increase the adoption of low-carbon and zero-carbon technologies.

To facilitate the implementation of this strategy, the GreenVoyage2050 program has been helping partner countries conduct feasibility studies for GHG reduction pilot projects. These studies aim to build confidence in the pilot projects, boosting their chances of securing investment for execution.

In this new phase, more countries will have access to technical and economic feasibility assessments, risk evaluations, stakeholder engagement, and advisory and administrative support for selected pilot projects.

Ms. Minglee Hoe, GreenVoyage2050 Technical Analyst, emphasized the importance of pilot projects for advancing new technologies and fuels, noting that feasibility studies are crucial for attracting investment. The program aims to de-risk these projects, making them more attractive to investors and supporting the broader implementation of the IMO GHG Strategy.

Eligible developing countries receiving Official Development Assistance are encouraged to apply for the GreenVoyage2050 Accelerator by submitting an online form. More information, including eligibility and criteria for pilot projects, is available on the GreenVoyage2050 website. The deadline for applications is October 11, 2024.

For additional details, visit the GreenVoyage2050 website or contact greenvoyage2050@imo.org.
