Apply to join the UN Migration (IOM) Youth Strategy Advisory Group 2025

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is launching a Youth Strategy Advisory Group, which will offer young people the chance to actively participate in the development of IOM’s new Youth Strategy. This group will consist of 10-15 diverse youth leaders and representatives from global youth networks.

Its primary role is to help guide and shape the process of creating the IOM Youth Strategy, acting as an advisory body to the organization.

Eligibility

To qualify for this group, applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old by the end of the application deadline. They should have proven experience in leadership roles related to youth engagement and participation. Additionally, candidates should have a strong interest or experience in migration issues and a good understanding of key frameworks such as the Global Compact for Safe, Regular, and Orderly Migration (GCM) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Members must commit to contributing at least eight hours per month to the group over the course of the 12-month mandate.

English will be the main working language of the group, so a strong command of the language is required. Applicants should also have strong analytical and writing skills, as they will be involved in drafting the IOM Youth Strategy. While not mandatory, familiarity with IOM’s mandate, strategic goals, and priorities is desirable.

Representation

Candidates should also belong to one of the following categories and provide the necessary documentation to support their application: youth representatives, advocates, activists, or journalists focused on migration, or researchers specializing in migration. This ensures that members contribute both from their own experiences and as representatives of broader youth perspectives.

Members of the Youth Strategy Advisory Group will serve for one year, until the IOM Youth Strategy development process is complete. The role is entirely remote and voluntary. Group meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of each month, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM CET (Geneva time).
