The International Climate Protection Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers a unique opportunity to advance your work in Germany, contributing to climate solutions on a global scale.

This fellowship supports diverse leaders, with a strong emphasis on gender balance and representation from underrepresented groups. The Humboldt Foundation encourages applications from all backgrounds, welcoming individuals regardless of ethnicity, culture, social identity, gender, age, religion, beliefs, disability, or sexual orientation.

Selected fellows will undertake research projects aligned with pressing environmental issues. Prospective leaders engaged in practical work can spend a year in Germany conducting a project focused on climate action, ecosystem preservation, sustainable use of oceans, or resource-efficient consumption. Postdoctoral fellows may extend their research for up to 24 months, focusing on critical topics like climate adaptation strategies, urban sustainability, or biodiversity conservation.

Each year, up to 15 fellowships are awarded to prospective leaders in practical fields, with an additional five positions for postdoctoral researchers. These fellowships are funded through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), now overseen by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in partnership with the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), as well as the Federal Foreign Office.
