1000 USD Monthly Stipend : Be part of the Remote UNITAR Traineeship
The Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit (MDPU) at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) offers a traineeship program for students and recent graduates seeking to gain professional experience in a multicultural setting while deepening their understanding of the United Nations system.
MDPU works closely with governments, universities, and selected international organizations to develop and deliver training activities. Its programs also include online courses, special projects, advisory services, and the creation of various training materials and publications.
MDPU invites qualified candidates to apply for placements at UNITAR's headquarters in Geneva for a period of two to three months.
Background
In line with UNITAR's commitment to enhancing multilateralism, international cooperation, and global solidarity, MDPU is developing a range of training activities that are offered both in person and online.
Field Visits are 1-2 weeks long, typically taking place in summer (July and August 2025), providing participants with the chance to experience Geneva’s multilateral environment firsthand. These visits include expert lectures, training workshops, guided tours, visits to UN agencies, multilateral conferences, and cultural activities.
Online Training Programs last between 2-4 weeks, also occurring in the summer (July and August 2025), and are fully delivered through UNITAR’s e-Learning platform. These programs consist of e-learning modules, live webinars, e-workshops, and virtual tours, with live sessions conducted via Zoom.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Associate Programme Officer of UNITAR’s Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit, the trainee will support the preparation and execution of Field Visits and Online Training programs, mainly scheduled for July and August 2025.
The trainee's tasks will include liaising with partner institutions, gathering participant information, preparing necessary documentation, managing content on the e-Learning platform, and organizing logistics for participant arrivals for the field visits to Geneva.
Additionally, the trainee will help facilitate live sessions for the online training programs and accompany the groups during the Geneva field visits. Responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating logistics before, during, and after training programs.
- Facilitating and monitoring both in-person and online training sessions.
- Supporting the program's outreach and communication efforts.
- Assisting in the creation and enhancement of online and other training materials.

Dates and Duration
- Start Date: Tuesday, 1 April 2025 (exact date to be arranged with the selected candidate).
- Duration: 6 months (specific duration to be discussed with the candidate). The position is full-time, and trainees are expected to work five days a week, office-based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Additional Information
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree in international relations, education, history, law, political science, languages, or a related field. If selected, the trainee must start the program within two years of graduation.
Candidates should be dynamic, team-oriented, and possess the following skills:
Strong organizational skills, including time management, logistics, and planning.
Experience in organizing field visits, guiding tours, or related activities.
Familiarity with online training program implementation.
Strong interpersonal and social skills.
Knowledge of the United Nations system and international affairs.
Commitment to UN values such as cooperation, respect, and solidarity.
Experience in strategic marketing and partnership management is a plus.
Expertise in digital marketing and social media platforms is an asset.
Established networks with potential partners and participants is advantageous.
