FULLY FUNDED TO MUNICH: Apply for the Allianz Climate Risk Research Award 2025 for young scientists

The 2025 edition of the Allianz Climate Risk Research Award is now accepting applications. Since its inception in 2017, this global award has aimed to recognize emerging scientists whose academic work explores the complex relationship between climate change and the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather. The initiative seeks to support research that not only deepens the understanding of climate-driven hazards but also proposes practical solutions to strengthen communities’ ability to withstand such events.

This opportunity is intended for individuals currently enrolled in a PhD program or engaged in post-doctoral research. Recently graduated PhD holders—those who completed their defense no more than two years prior to the time of application—are also eligible. Applicants must be working on research that aligns closely with the core themes of the award, particularly projects addressing weather-related risks intensified by climate shifts or research offering innovative, tech-based approaches to improve resilience.

From the pool of submissions, ten candidates will be selected by a panel comprising academic and industry professionals. These selected researchers will have their work featured in an official collection published on Allianz Re’s website. Finalists are expected to travel to Munich, Germany, to present their research at the award ceremony. Allianz Re will sponsor all travel expenses related to the event. Finalists are also required to participate in promotional efforts, such as interviews and public communications regarding their projects.

Among the ten chosen, three finalists will be invited to present their findings in person at the award event. The overall winner will receive a prize of €7,000, while each of the two runners-up will be awarded €3,000.
