The call for applications is now open for the 2026 edition of the MEST AI Startup Program—an intensive, year-long initiative crafted to empower the next generation of artificial intelligence entrepreneurs in Africa. This transformative journey is designed to help participants gain crucial skills in technology development, business strategy, and leadership to enable them to launch competitive AI-driven startups on the global stage.

The initiative unfolds in two major segments. The initial stage spans seven months, during which selected individuals undergo rigorous, hands-on training from January to July 2026. This part of the experience emphasizes practical engagement, where participants ideate, test, and shape AI-based startup concepts while building minimum viable products. Alongside this, they receive advanced instruction in coding, business operations, and product development from leading experts, practitioners, and innovators in the AI space. The training concludes with a pitching opportunity where the strongest teams are identified for advancement into the next stage.

Those selected move on to a four-month accelerator phase running from September to December 2026. This second part of the program is focused on helping emerging startups gain traction in the market, refine their strategies, and attract funding. During this time, founders receive tailored guidance from seasoned mentors, industry veterans, and investors. They work on customer acquisition, product scaling, and preparing for investor readiness. By the close of the program, participating ventures are expected to have functional AI products in the market, a solid customer base, and a clear growth and investment plan.

The structure of the program ensures that participants gain real-world experience, personalized support, and access to valuable networks that can accelerate their journey from idea to impactful, investor-ready startup.

This opportunity is open to young people aged between 21 and 30 years old who are citizens of any West African country. Applicants should have at least a diploma, university degree, or proven equivalent learning experience. Strong candidates will have prior exposure to coding, some familiarity with AI technologies, and a genuine passion for launching tech-based businesses. Ideal participants are self-starters, creative thinkers, and problem-solvers who thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments and are committed to pursuing entrepreneurship as a full-time career path.

The program encourages applications from all over West Africa. However, shortlisted candidates must be prepared to travel to Ghana, Nigeria, or Senegal to participate in face-to-face interviews and team challenges taking place in September or October 2025.
