Overview: The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO promotes international cooperation in marine sciences to improve management of the ocean, coasts, and marine resources. The IOC enables its 152 Member States to work together by coordinating programmes in capacity development, ocean observations and services, ocean science, tsunami warning, and ocean literacy. The work of the IOC contributes to the mission of UNESCO to promote the advancement of science and its applications to develop knowledge and capacity, key to economic and social progress and the basis of peace and sustainable development. The IOC is the UN entity in charge of coordinating the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030 (The Ocean Decade).

4.Consultant Feasibility Study BiOES project
Background
The consultancy opportunity involves conducting a Feasibility Study titled "Towards UNESCO Biosphere Observatories: Exploring IOC Systems and Flanders Technology." This study serves as an essential preliminary step toward a broader initiative called the UNESCO Biosphere Observatories for Ocean Ecosystem Sustainability (BiOES) project.
The study arises from the urgent need to improve monitoring of marine and coastal ecosystems, as well as the challenges threatening their health, in order to support resilient coastal communities. Many marine protected areas globally currently struggle due to insufficient infrastructure and technical capacity to effectively combine observation, conservation, and restoration activities. Moreover, even when environmental data is gathered, it frequently remains underexploited.

5.Individual Consultant - Ocean Best Practice System Support Officer
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) is looking for an experienced ocean professional to take on a consultancy role aimed at advancing the Ocean Best Practice System (OBPS) Project. This includes assisting in the establishment of a new Steering Group and contributing toward the successful delivery of the project’s goals, as outlined in Decision IOC-33 3.4.4. The consultant, serving as the Ocean Best Practice System Support Officer, will primarily assist in executing the project’s work plan and collaborate closely with the OBPS Steering Group under IOC’s direction.

6.Ocean Decade – Operations Volunteer
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Programme Specialist in the Marine Policy and Regional Coordination Section, and under the general guidance of the Section Chief, the volunteer will collaborate with the Operations Team and other staff within the Decade Coordination Unit. The role will involve contributing to various tasks tied to the implementation of the Ocean Decade.
The volunteer’s support will focus on three core areas:

Managing and organizing Ocean Decade publications on the AquaDocs digital platform.
