Fully Funded : Apply for the 2027 Environmental Community Organising (ECO) Fellowship Program

Applications are open for the 2027 Environmental Community Organising (ECO) Fellowship Program, a funded, hands-on training opportunity for emerging professionals interested in the connection between nature, peacebuilding and collective action for sustainable justice.

Organised by ArtPeace: Earth in partnership with the Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability (NERPS) and supporting partners, the programme will bring together students, early-career researchers and entry-level practitioners interested in environmental peacebuilding.

The fellowship combines online learning and relationship-building sessions with an intensive in-person programme in Jakarta, Indonesia, followed by participation in the NERPS 2027 Conference at the Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN).

About the ECO Fellowship

The Environmental Community Organising Fellowship is designed to help emerging leaders explore how environmental challenges, peacebuilding and community action intersect.

From November 2026 to February 2027, selected Fellows will participate in online dialogues and learning sessions aimed at building relationships across borders and disciplines, developing a shared understanding of environmental peacebuilding and preparing participants for the in-person programme.

The programme will then move to Jakarta, where Fellows will take part in an intensive training programme before joining the NERPS 2027 Conference.

Beyond the formal training, Fellows will have opportunities to build professional relationships, collaborate with others working in the field and explore possibilities for future publication and knowledge exchange.

What the Programme Includes

The ECO Fellowship will involve several stages of learning and engagement.

Online Learning and Dialogue

From November 2026 to February 2027, Fellows will participate in online sessions requiring approximately five hours per month.

In-Person Training in Jakarta

The intensive in-person component will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 13–19 March 2027, with participants expected to arrive on 12 March and depart on 20 March.

The training will explore creative and participatory approaches to environmental peacebuilding, including:

  • Gamified learning techniques
  • Environmental peace problems and solutions
  • Arts-based collective visioning
  • Storytelling and visual communication
  • Visual project abstract development
  • Conference preparation
  • Open Space Technology
  • Community and collective learning approaches

The programme is designed to be highly participatory, giving Fellows opportunities to contribute their own experiences and expertise alongside learning from established practitioners and researchers.

Participation in NERPS 2027

Following the training, ECO Fellows will participate in the NERPS 2027 Conference at the Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) in Jakarta.

The conference brings together researchers, practitioners and other stakeholders working at the intersection of science, society, environmental peacebuilding and sustainability.
