InfoNile, in partnership with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, supported by funding from the JRS Biodiversity Foundation and IHE Delft’s Water and Development Partnership Programme, is inviting applications from water and biodiversity activists in the Nile Basin countries (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo) for an activists training program.
This program aims to strengthen science communication among water and biodiversity activists by equipping them with effective communication skills to share stories about water, biodiversity, environmental conservation, and climate issues with a wider audience. The training will also empower water and environment activists to collaborate with journalists, scientists, and other stakeholders to address environmental challenges in the Nile Basin countries.
The training webinar series will cover the importance of science communication, various methods of conveying scientific information, and guide participants in pitching their campaign plans for collaborating with InfoNile journalists to amplify their stories. Exceptional campaigns will receive support through small grants and mentorship to promote activism related to journalists' stories through communication campaigns or community exhibitions.
Eligibility criteria include being an environmental activist in the Nile Basin countries, especially with a focus on water resources and/or biodiversity. Applicants should have internet access or a smartphone, proficiency in English, and availability to participate fully in all scheduled sessions and activities during the training weeks and campaigns.
Selection will be based on factors such as a history of community mobilization, willingness to collaborate with various stakeholders, a positive attitude towards networking, and an eagerness to learn and share knowledge. Applicants should also demonstrate their commitment to working with journalists for water and environmental activism, either locally or on cross-border challenges within the Nile Basin countries.
