FULLY FUNDED TO COP28: Apply for these newly launched UNFCC 2023 UN Global Climate Action Awards
The UN Global Climate Action Awards, led by UN Climate Change, aim to spotlight the extensive initiatives worldwide propelling us towards a resilient, low-carbon future. These awards celebrate innovative solutions addressing climate change and broader economic, social, and environmental challenges.
Administered by UN Climate Change since 2011, the awards acknowledge groundbreaking climate action. This year, they focus on youth-led projects making a significant impact in the fields of energy transition and resilient nature.
In 2023, award recipients will be honored during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 30 to December 12.
The 2023 UN Global Climate Action Awards recognize climate action by young people in two categories:
1. **Youth leading the energy transition:** Recognizing youth (up to 35 years old) driving local, community-focused renewable energy and/or energy efficiency initiatives. These efforts incorporate education, training, and public awareness to achieve goals, emphasizing equity in the community.
2. **Youth supporting resilient nature:** Acknowledging innovative work by individuals or groups of young people (up to 35 years old) in indigenous or local communities. These activities aim to restore, maintain, or enhance nature's resilience and its contributions to people using nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based approaches. They also emphasize public awareness, participation, access to information, and equity in the community.
These awards are presented in partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to IRENA.
**Eligibility Requirements:**
Applications will be assessed based on criteria such as age, locally focused implementation, educational elements, equity considerations, and whether the initiatives are already implemented or in progress.
**Benefits:**
Winners will receive a package of benefits, including travel to and participation in the COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, UAE. Benefits encompass UN Climate Change Award certificates, travel and daily allowances for COP28, networking opportunities with policymakers, a video produced about their initiative, a dedicated webpage on the UN Climate Change website, participation in relevant speaking engagements throughout 2024, and a year-long mentoring program tailored to their specific needs to further empower their achievements.
