Scholarship Focus Areas
Climate & Nature
The possibility of human population growth beyond the planet's physical capability arises from unsustainable food production and consumption. The cosmetics and fragrance industries face environmental issues such as water-intensive manufacturing procedures and waste from plastic packaging. dsm-firmenich uses partnerships, lobbying, and science-based solutions to reduce its negative environmental effects and advance eco-friendly practices. Those who apply for the scholarship should be proactive in lowering the environmental impact of regional and international systems that produce beauty products or agri-food. This can entail promoting systemic change, becoming a walking example of what you preach, and creating locally to benefit locally.
Food industrialization on a large scale has resulted in hidden hunger, undernutrition, and diet-related diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Scholarship applicants must to concentrate on expanding access to nourishing foods that are inexpensive, of excellent quality, and aspirational in low- and middle-income nations. To support local communities, they should develop ethical brands, promote balanced diets, and use locally grown food.
The equitable distribution of wealth in value chains, equity, and living income are the main objectives of the social pillar of the DSM-Friedenich sustainability aspiration. However, a large number of labourers in the food and cosmetics supply chains do not receive a livable salary or income and may work in hazardous conditions. The livelihoods of smallholder farmers should be actively improved by scholarship applicants through systemic change advocacy and equality promotion through partnerships and just sourcing principles.
Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 1 May 2024.
