Apply for the Oxford Institute for Ethics in AI – Accelerator Fellowship Programme 2026 (£2,000 Monthly Stipend)

Applications are open for the Oxford Institute for Ethics in AI – Accelerator Fellowship Programme 2026 , an initiative created to explore and address some of the most pressing ethical questions surrounding artificial intelligence. The programme blends philosophical reflection with real-world application, supporting work that contributes meaningfully to global discussions on the future of AI.

Designed for established professionals and academics, the fellowship provides a platform for individuals who are actively engaging with the challenges and opportunities that come with rapid advances in artificial intelligence. The programme aims to nurture innovative ideas, deepen ethical inquiry, and support practical outputs across several thematic areas:

  • AI, Law and Policy

  • AI and Creativity

  • AI in Care, Mental Health, and Healthcare

  • AI and Humanity

Fellows are expected to have a strong interest in the ethical dimensions of emerging technologies and a commitment to making an impact in their respective fields. Applicants may come from universities, research organisations, industry, government, civil society, or the creative sectors, provided they hold a continuing professional role.

Applicants are eligible if they hold at least a master’s degree or can demonstrate equivalent professional experience (a minimum of five years in a relevant area). Projects should clearly align with the mission of the fellowship and fall within its core research themes.

Different streams cater to various backgrounds:

  • Creativity Fellows may come from creative industries or work on subjects linking AI and human creativity.

  • Care Fellows may focus on the influence of AI in healthcare, mental health, or social care.

  • Humanity Fellows may come from the humanities or from computer science with an interest in AI’s societal impact.

  • AI, Law & Policy Fellows may have experience in government, civil society, policy, or law.

What the Fellowship Offers

Selected fellows will have access to a range of opportunities designed to support their work and help them extend its influence:

  • Connections to strategic networks capable of strengthening research and shaping policy

  • Intellectual exchange with scholars and practitioners at the University of Oxford

  • Platforms to share work through seminars, public talks, and collaborative events

  • A flexible structure that can be adapted to existing professional commitments

The fellowship may be undertaken remotely or in person. Fellows who can visit Oxford will have the opportunity to spend up to six months at a time immersed in the institute’s activities, providing visa requirements are met.

Please note that the fellowship is not an employment contract with the University.

Fellowships last 6 or 12 months, with start dates beginning from February 2026. The programme is intentionally flexible so that participants may combine remote work with short-term visits or opt for a longer continuous stay in Oxford.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 10 January 2026.
