CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Informed Climate Journalism Network (ICJN) 2027

Applications are now open for the Informed Climate Journalism Network (ICJN), a free, six-month online training programme by Informed Earth designed to equip journalists and editors with the knowledge and skills to report on climate change more effectively.

The programme brings together 100 journalists from across the world, creating a global community where participants can strengthen their understanding of climate science and policy, improve their reporting skills, and exchange ideas and experiences with fellow journalists.

The network welcomes applications from working reporters and editors at all career stages, including editors-in-chief, junior reporters, climate specialists, and journalists covering other beats such as business, sports, and fashion who are interested in exploring climate-related issues. The programme aims to bring together diverse perspectives and experiences to improve the quality and depth of climate journalism worldwide.

Over six months, participants will engage in lectures led by leading academics and experts, practical workshops with experienced climate journalists, story clinics, and small-group discussions with fellow participants. Confirmed speakers include Dr Friederike Otto, who will discuss extreme weather attribution; Dr Kris de Meyer, who will explore climate psychology; Dr David Obura, who will address nature and climate change; and Dr Geoffrey Supran, who will cover climate misinformation. Additional sessions will feature experienced journalists and editors sharing insights from their work.

The programme is delivered entirely online and in English, allowing participants from different countries to take part. The core curriculum requires attendance at 12 mandatory one-hour sessions over six months, generally scheduled every other Tuesday at 13:00 UK time. Participants can also attend optional sessions, with the possibility of engaging in approximately eight one-hour sessions per month in total. Members are expected to participate in the network’s online community and may pursue an editorial project or professional goal related to climate journalism.

Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a certificate.

The initiative is led by the team behind the former Oxford Climate Journalism Network, which trained more than 800 journalists across over 130 countries during its four years of operation.

The first cohort will begin in January 2027.

Eligibility: Applicants must be working reporters or editors interested in climate journalism, regardless of their current reporting beat or career level. Applicants should have a good command of English to participate in live sessions and be willing to attend the mandatory sessions and engage with the international community.

Application Deadline: 1 November 2026.
