Applications are now open for the Introduction to Carbon Justice online course, a free global learning programme designed to help participants understand carbon markets while promoting community rights and climate justice. The course is offered by the Grassroots Justice Network Academy, a legal empowerment learning platform hosted by the Grassroots Justice Network convened by Namati.

Running from 13 July to 28 August 2026, the programme combines self-paced learning with live interactive sessions, providing practical knowledge for individuals and organisations working on climate justice, community rights, and sustainable development.

Course Highlights

• How carbon markets operate.
• Key carbon justice concepts explained in accessible language.
• Strategies for negotiating fair agreements with carbon market actors.
• Approaches to protecting community rights and demanding accountability.
• Advocacy techniques for influencing national laws and policies on carbon justice.
• Practical lessons from frontline justice defenders working on carbon-related issues.

Course Format

The programme includes:

• Five self-paced online learning modules.
• Interactive exercises.
• Three live virtual learning sessions.
• An estimated commitment of 2–4 hours per week.
• Instruction available in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
