FULLY FUNDED: Applications are open for the 50th UNEP/UNESCO/BMUKN International Postgraduate Course on Environmental Management (EM50) in Germany

This prestigious six-month postgraduate training program will take place in Dresden, Germany, and is designed to strengthen the capacity of environmental professionals from developing and emerging countries. The course equips participants with the knowledge and practical tools needed to connect scientific research, policy development, and real-world implementation in order to advance sustainable development initiatives.

The EM50 program will run from 14 January to 16 July 2027, with the scholarship covering the period from 7 January to 23 July 2027. It is a full-time, in-person program that will host 21 selected participants. The working language of the course is English.

Program Overview

The course offers an interdisciplinary learning experience focused on environmental management and sustainable development. Participants will engage in a structured curriculum that combines lectures, practical exercises, collaborative projects, and study excursions. The training integrates scientific knowledge with policy perspectives and emphasizes practical solutions to environmental challenges faced in developing countries.

The curriculum explores key themes such as environmental governance, natural resource management, climate action, renewable energy systems, sustainable urban development, and circular economy approaches. Participants will also take part in field visits and study tours, including a visit to the International Academy for Nature Conservation on the island of Vilm.

Lectures and training sessions are delivered by professors from the Technical University of Dresden and experts from leading German and international institutions working in environmental research, policy, and management.

By the end of the program, participants will gain the ability to:

  • Analyze environmental risks and sustainability challenges
  • Develop practical strategies for sustainable resource management
  • Apply interdisciplinary approaches to environmental policy and governance
  • Design projects that integrate ecological, social, economic, and cultural considerations
  • Communicate environmental solutions effectively to policymakers and stakeholders

The program also strengthens transferable skills such as policy advisory work, project management, presentation techniques, intercultural collaboration, participatory governance, and the use of geospatial information tools.
