About the Fellowship
The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) is accepting nominations for the 2025 Fellowship Training Programme on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Control. This initiative aims to strengthen the technical expertise of government officials directly involved in the implementation of the Programme of Action (PoA) and the International Tracing Instrument (ITI), with a focus on building capacity in developing countries.
Programme Overview
The Fellowship provides comprehensive training on key aspects of small arms control, including:
🔹 Global and regional arms control frameworks
🔹 Legislative and regulatory considerations
🔹 Design and management of SALW control initiatives
🔹 Physical security, stockpile management, marking, and tracing
🔹 Border control, manufacturing, and destruction of small arms
🔹 Disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR)
🔹 Inclusive approaches to SALW control
🔹 Practical activities and research projects
Programme Structure
The Fellowship consists of:
📚 Self-paced Online Course: Foundational knowledge on SALW control
🏛️ Four-Week In-Person Training: Practical, hands-on training in small arms control, delivered in collaboration with UNODA’s regional centers (UNLIREC, UNRCPD, UNREC)
Application Process
- Each Caribbean Member State may nominate up to three candidates, but only one fellow per country will be selected.
- UNODA encourages the nomination of qualified women to promote gender balance.

📅 In-Person Training: 28 July – 15 August 2025
📍 Location: Trinidad and Tobago
