Program Benefits
This is a fully funded fellowship that provides comprehensive academic, financial, and logistical support. Fellows will receive official affiliation with an Oxford department and college, gaining access to world-class research facilities, libraries, and academic networks.

During the in-person residency, the programme covers accommodation, return economy flights, airport transfers, and visa costs. Fellows also receive a maintenance allowance (up to £250 per week) to cover living expenses while in Oxford.

Beyond financial support, the fellowship offers strong academic value. Participants collaborate on research projects, publish joint papers, engage in policy discussions, and build long-term global partnerships. The programme also enhances research leadership skills and opens doors to future funding and collaborations.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be African nationals or individuals with indefinite residency in an African country, and they must be actively working in an African academic or research institution. Candidates are expected to hold a postdoctoral qualification or demonstrate equivalent research experience at the time of application.

In addition, applicants must have a clearly defined research proposal aligned with one of the AfOx thematic areas or partner departments. A key requirement is securing an Oxford-based academic collaborator before applying. This collaborator must provide a formal support letter, confirming their willingness to host and work with the applicant throughout the fellowship. Applications without this collaboration are considered incomplete.

Applicants should not already be affiliated with Oxford at the time of application, and they must demonstrate the ability to complete both the virtual and in-person components of the programme.
