Applications are open for the Africa CDC African Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship Cohort III, a prestigious six-month fully funded fellowship designed to strengthen Africa’s capacity to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies. The programme is implemented by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to build a strong network of public health professionals capable of coordinating emergency preparedness and response across the continent.
The fellowship provides structured training, mentorship, hands-on experience, and international exposure to mid-career public health professionals working in government institutions. Fellows will gain advanced knowledge on Public Health Emergency Operations Centers (PHEOCs), participate in emergency response simulations, engage in study tours, and work closely with experienced mentors and global experts. The six-month residential program will take place at Africa CDC training sites including the headquarters in Ethiopia and the Southern Regional Collaborative Centre in Zambia.
Participants will undergo intensive in-person training, study tours within and outside Africa, field placements in emergency response environments, and complete a final project before graduation. After the program, fellows are expected to return to their home countries and strengthen national public health emergency management systems.
