Applications are open for the Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) – Master’s Studies at Wageningen University (2026 Intake) .

The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) provides high-achieving students from Africa with the opportunity to pursue a fully funded Master’s degree at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) in the Netherlands. The programme is designed to strengthen academic excellence while contributing to long-term capacity building across the African continent.

Who the Programme Is For

The scholarship is intended for academically outstanding candidates who demonstrate strong motivation and the potential to contribute to development and innovation in Africa after graduation.

Important Application Dates

  • MSc application deadline: 1 February 2026
    All Master’s programme applications submitted by this date will be reviewed for scholarship consideration.

  • Scholarship invitation notification: 1 April 2026
    Eligible candidates invited to the ASP selection process will be contacted by email.

  • Final selection results: 7 May 2026
    Applicants will be informed whether they have been awarded the scholarship or placed on a waiting list.

Candidates who do not receive communication by 1 April 2026 will no longer be under consideration for the ASP September 2026 intake.

Selection Process

The ASP selection committee conducts an academic review of eligible candidates. From those shortlisted, a number of scholarship recipients are selected through a formal allocation process, with additional candidates placed on a reserve list.

Fields of Study

Eligible Master’s programmes span a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Environmental Sciences

  • Biotechnology

  • Biology

  • Biosystems Engineering

  • Forest and Nature Conservation

  • Agriculture and food-related sciences

All programmes are taught in English, and applicants must meet the university’s English language requirements.

The Africa Scholarship Programme offers a highly competitive pathway for talented African students to access world-class education while preparing to contribute knowledge, skills, and leadership to Africa’s future development.

Selected scholars receive comprehensive financial support for the full duration of their studies (24 months), including:

Eligibility Criteria
- Hold citizenship of an African country

- Have submitted a complete application for an eligible MSc programme at Wageningen University before the stated deadline

- Receive unconditional admission to the selected MSc programme

- Possess a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with a minimum GPA of 80%

- Preference is given to candidates who have not yet completed a Master’s degree

- Only applicants who satisfy all eligibility conditions may be invited to participate in the scholarship selection process.
