FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the AWF Geospatial Leaders Fellowship 2026

Applications are open for the AWF Geospatial Leaders Fellowship 2026, a fully funded, 10-month professional development programme created to strengthen advanced GIS and geospatial leadership skills among emerging African conservation professionals.

Implemented by the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), this fellowship is designed for young professionals who are already working at the intersection of environment, conservation, and spatial data, and who want to use geospatial tools to influence real-world decisions across Africa’s landscapes.

About the Fellowship

The Geospatial Leaders Fellowship blends technical training with practical application. Fellows deepen their expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while applying their skills to a real conservation or sustainable development challenge within their organization.

Key focus areas include:

  • Monitoring deforestation and land-use change

  • Mapping wildlife corridors and protected areas

  • Supporting human–wildlife conflict mitigation

  • Informing conservation planning and development policy through spatial data

The programme combines structured online learning, an in-person cohort workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, and a mentored project that delivers measurable outcomes.

This requirement ensures that fellows can immediately apply new skills to real institutional and community challenges.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 15 Jan 2026.
