Program Benefits

The scholarship provides funding for the entire duration of an eligible Master’s degree programme in Germany, generally for up to 24 months. Scholars gain access to high-quality education at leading German universities, international academic networks, research opportunities, and professional development experiences. The programme is designed to equip participants with advanced knowledge and skills in innovation-driven STEM fields, enhancing their career prospects and enabling them to contribute to scientific and technological development in their countries and globally.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be high-achieving graduates from developing and emerging countries who intend to complete a Master’s degree in Germany in a STEM-related discipline. Candidates must hold a first university degree recognized in Germany, such as a Bachelor’s degree, by the application deadline. Applicants who already possess a Master’s degree at the time of application are not eligible. The intended study programme must be a full-time, on-campus Master’s degree at a state or state-recognized German university and must fall within mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, engineering, or an interdisciplinary programme with a clear STEM focus. Programmes that include integrated study periods outside Germany are not eligible for funding.

Eligible Countries

The scholarship is open to applicants from developing and emerging countries worldwide, including applicants from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, among many others.
