Program Benefits
Successful applicants will receive a fellowship lasting between four and ten months during the period from 1 September 2027 to 31 August 2028. Depending on their employment circumstances, fellows will receive either a fellowship contract with the University of Freiburg or alternative compensation arrangements. In addition, the programme provides a research cost contribution, reimbursement for inbound and outbound travel expenses, access to office space and university facilities, and support with accommodation, childcare, and visa-related matters where applicable. Fellows will also become part of an international academic community comprising more than 1,000 scholars worldwide.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a completed PhD and have no more than eight years of post-doctoral experience at the time of application. They must have published at least four peer-reviewed publications since 1 January 2022 and should have completed a minimum of six months of research or study experience in a country different from where they obtained their first academic degree. Applications are welcomed from researchers of all nationalities and disciplines that can be supported at the University of Freiburg. Selection is highly competitive and based on the academic quality, originality, and potential impact of the proposed research project.

The fellowship is open to applicants from all countries around the world. Researchers based in Germany and those residing abroad are eligible to apply, provided they meet the programme’s academic and research requirements.
