Applications are open for the I Tatti Residential Fellowship, hosted by Villa I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies. This prestigious fully funded fellowship supports outstanding early career scholars conducting advanced research on the Italian Renaissance, broadly defined to cover the 14th to 17th centuries.

Fellows spend twelve months in Florence, with access to world-class research facilities, mentorship, and an international community of scholars. The program encourages projects that not only focus on Italy but also explore its connections with other cultures, including Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Mediterranean.

Selected fellows will receive a generous grant of USD 65,000, supplemented by relocation support. Housing is also provided, either through apartments on site or a housing subsidy. Fellows will gain access to the Berenson Library and Harvard University’s vast resources, along with the chance to participate in workshops, lectures, and seminars that foster collaboration. The fellowship offers not only financial stability but also the time, space, and community necessary for scholars to deepen their research in Renaissance studies.
Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to scholars of all nationalities. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree, awarded between January 1, 2015, and September 1, 2025. Candidates should be early career researchers who are not working toward a second PhD. If a candidate holds two PhDs, the eligibility dates apply to the most recent one. Applicants must be fluent in English or Italian and have at least a basic understanding of the other language. Successful fellows are required to reside in the Florence area, attend Villa I Tatti regularly, and fully dedicate their time to the fellowship without additional professional commitments.
