The selected Fellow will receive a 12-month award of CAD $60,000, a publishing contract to produce an online art book, editorial support from the Art Canada Institute’s in-house editors, and mentorship from leading researchers in Canadian art history. During the fellowship the Fellow will also gain opportunities to present their project within the Institute’s community of authors, scholars, artists and patrons and benefit from an expanded professional network and visibility in the Canadian art-history field. 

This fellowship is open to early-career scholars who hold a PhD in art history or a closely related field, awarded within the past seven years, and who have already developed a body of research that can be written up into a manuscript of 30,000–40,000 words over the course of twelve months. The successful applicant must be capable of contributing to the study of Canadian art — broadly defined to include historical, contemporary, Indigenous, and diasporic practices. Proposals must align with the Institute’s publishing streams, and applicants should demonstrate a clear plan to develop their research into a digital online art book format.
